Jacob & Stacy Caldwell and Curtis Fong anticipate the start of the Planning Party. (Photo by C Kugler)No brakes will be applied for SNR members as we race into 2010. Forty five Porsche enthusiasts came together to eat, drink, and plan a year filled with non stop events. Some old favorites will return and a number of new events have been added to this year’s calendar. By the time you read this the always popular Cioppino feed will have already settled in your stomach and you should be ready for a bit of the Irish in March.
Bob & Kathy McLaughlin, Sue Kemper and Cam Warren look ready to present event ideas at the Planning Party. (Photo by C Kugler)With spring arriving we will be ready to dust off our cars from their winter slumber with a Tech Session followed by the “Dust Off Tour” in April. Gilbert Dayao of Gilson Autobody will host a tech session on suspension systems. Afterwards Curtis Fong will lead the drive tour while Dan Aynesworth will have a special tour stop planned for us. Brian Lowder and Leslie Castle of Reno Rennsport have agreed to sponsor a Porsche swap meet at their shop in May, so start looking around your garage for things to swap or sell. In May and July we have two different weekend tours hosted by Sue Kemper and Cam Warren: one at a local Sierra Nevada Dude Ranch and the other a scenic trip to the California North Coast.
Rich O’Larey with Betty Hollman discussing an upcoming club event. (Photo by C Kugler)June marks our club’s 45th Anniversary and Jim & Ellen Hodos have agreed to host a Nevada hoe down for Porsche enthusiasts to celebrate the special occasion. This will be a lively event filled with a variety of activities to mark our club’s anniversary. July brings us a plethora of opportunities to drive and enjoy the cars. Ned Bacon has graciously invited the club to the Carson Valley to view his father’s fabulous car collection. This is a not to be missed opportunity for anyone with a love of cars and it will be accompanied by an old fashioned country BBQ. We have two other tours in July: one will take us to eastern Nevada and the other will take us to southern Nevada. Mary Zanella will take us east on a Gold Mine Tour and Curtis Fong will take us to heaven only knows where! While the summer weather still makes driving irresistible, Merlin and Anne Simons will host a Big Springs Gardens outing, while Craig and Mary Lou Kugler will again be leading members on a weekend trip to Mammoth and points beyond in August.
Debbie Dell, Rosemary Snickars and Alice Strom enjoy posing for the camera. (Photo by C Kugler)September brings two familiar events that many members have enjoyed in the past. Dean and Judy Watts have offered to open up “The Shop” for a barbeque and a peek at some of their beautiful cars. If that isn’t enough, the Fall Wine Tour will make a return engagement for all our wine lovers in September. Things will begin to wind down in October with an October Fest hosted by Paul and Nancy Giannini, followed by the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in November. We end our year with a bang in December with our annual Christmas Party. For good measure we’ll sprinkle in additional tech sessions, new car release events, driver’s education and autocross opportunities and the list goes on. Whew! So buckle up it’s going to be a wild ride.
